As you may have gathered we are going to be learning about the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, this is what we call a traditional tale. We will be also reading and looking at the similarities and differences between other traditional tales and fairy tales. During the holiday it would be helpful to the children, if they have heard some of these stories e.g. The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Enormous Turnip, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, The Emperor’s New Clothes etc. So if you could share some of these stories together they will be raring to go!
As part of our topic, we are going to have an unstructured role play area whereby we will be allowing the children to invent and create their own roles and stories. We would like to provide them with as many props, costumes and masks from traditional tales for them to be able to retell and mix and match the characters and storylines. We would be very grateful if you could provide something we could use and keep in the new role play area.
The children have now been in reception for half of the academic year and we would like to promote their independence skills even more. We feel they are all ready to come into school on their own and carry out their morning jobs by themselves. We are not, by all means, pushing you away but, the children would benefit from beginning their next step of the school routines and responsibilities. We can only give it a go! Enjoy your half term holiday and see you in a weeks’ time ready for lighter days and some warmer weather !
